Always In The Making

I love the words from John's Gospel, If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." (John 8:31)

I think that Jesus is letting us know, truth is a journey toward light. We glimpse the truth here and there, but we never have it fully. It is the very search for truth that opens our lives and brings inspiration. Who has not realized after much reflection and prayer that perhaps they were not being true to their own person, and made a complete about face in their lives regarding careers, pursuits, and even commitments? That is a person searching for truth.

It is this search for truth that really sets us free, not the possession of it. For who of us really knows the full  truth? As Paul says so accurately, we see now as through a dark glass (1 Cor 13:12). The focus should not be possession, but the search. For it is the search that opens us up and sets us free from narrowness of mind and hardness of heart. Seekers of truth live on a different plane because they are constantly seeing through the daily grind into purpose. They do not operate on automatic, but on desire. Such seekers live with a joy hard to describe. And they realize that fulfillment will never be fully complete, but are content to live with it always in the making.
